A standing terracotta lady painted in cold pigments
Tang dynasty, 7th/8th century, China
唐 7世紀或8世紀 中國
Height: 29 cm, 15.7 inches
The court lady stands wearing a long robe that falls to the ground leaving her elaborate curled shoes exposed, a short sleeved jacket is covered by a scarf across the shoulders that falls down at the front covering the ladies hands that are held crossed to the front. Her form is slender suggesting a period just prior to the 8th century fashion for the fuller ‘fat lady’ model. The face is one of a young woman with hair fashionably tied up above the head in two elaborate buns either side of a centre parting.
