A schist stone frieze with figures at leisure
Gandhara period, 2nd century AD, Afghanistan
Height: 36.5 cm, 14.4 inches - Width: 38.5 cm, 15.2 inches
The arched form is deeply carved on the inside, the inner edge is decorated with flower heads, the main scene depicts a lady of high status reclining on a couch, seated beside her is a naked, bearded ascetic man holding a cup and being waited upon by a female servant from behind the couch.
