A porcelain walking dog in the Kakiemon palette

Late 17th century, Japan

Length: 22cm, 8.66inches

The puppy walks with head stooped, mouth closed, turning to the right in characteristic pose when following scent, the tail raised and curled into a circle. The off white glazed body is sponged with irregular patches in over glaze enamels of black, red and green, with the eyes in yellow. A red collar is fitted around his neck.
