A pair of Rose-Verte porcelain Buddhist lions
circa 1740, China

The pair of lions are powerfully modelled in a classic pose with open mouths and bulging eyes, seated on their haunches, the female looking to the right with the pup, the male looking to the left with a pierced ball under his raised left paw. Both lions are placed on octagonal bases with pierced sides decorated with various diaper designs. The rose -verte palette is rare, belonging to a short intermediary period between the two era’s of porcelain manufacture when both palettes were combined, and equating to the Yongzheng / early Qianlong periods.
