A
PAIR OF PORCELAIN BOTTLE VASES
Kangxi period 1662-1722 AD China
The vases are decorated in under glaze iron red
and over glaze cold gilding - the latter in remarkably
good condition. Each has a bulbous body, a long
elegant neck, and rests on a short circular foot.
The neck is painted at the top and bottom with
acanthus leaves - below which a diaper border
is punctuated by single sprigs of flowers. The
shoulders of each vase and the upper part of the
bodies are decorated with staggered scallops -
each of these being decorated with scrolling leaves
and a single chrysanthemum.
