A
PAIR OF FAMILLE ROSE GINGER JARS AND COVERS
Circa 1740 AD
Chinese Export
Both jars are of identical design, decorated with three ladies in a landscape amongst clouds receiving an important dignitary mounted on a horse and accompanied by an attendant who carries a parasol. The reverse is enamelled with a pine tree - the branches of which form a broad canopy around the shoulders of each vase. The covers are decorated with an official mounted upon a kylin, the covers' straight sides painted with sprigs of flowers.
The enamels on this pair of vases are particularly bright and form a rich and varied pallet set off against the white background.
