A PAIR OF FAMILLE VERTE PORCELAIN FIGURES OF BOYS

Late Ming dynasty
17th century AD
China

The boys stand on square bases. Each figure looks ahead and holds a lotus stem and flower with both hands - the pod incorporating a circular opening that would originally have served as an incense stick holder. The boys have shaven heads except for a tuft of hair just above the forehead tied with a ribbon. They wear long dhotis decorated with a cloud design, and a triangular shaped bib that covers the chest and stomach; it is attached at the back and around the neck, and designed with cranes and clouds.

Height: 12.25” / 31 cm
