A PAIR OF IMARI PORCELAIN COFFEE POTS AND COVERS, WITH DUTCH SILVER TAPS
1700-1730 AD
Japan
The coffee pots are of conical form, resting on
three flat double bracket feet, and surmounted
by a domed cover with pointed knob and a loop
ring; the latter is attached to the top of the
curved flat handle by a silver linked chain. Each
pot has a silver tap - the hole for the tap being
surrounded by raised petals of chrysanthemum form.
These Dutch taps are contemporary with the period
of manufacture of the pots. The pots themselves
are decorated in iron red and white - with gilding
- depicting stylised scrolls, leaves and flowers,
and two central medallions each painted with a
curving phoenix.
