A PAIR OF CHINESE EXPORT PORCELAIN PIG TUREENS
Circa 1810
China
The pigs are painted in blue & white, with scenes
of a walled town. There are holes on both the covers
& tureens, which originally took silver handles.
Height: 7.5"
Length: 14"
A similar model of a pig
tureen is illustrated in 'Porcelain of the East
India Company' by Beurdeley, page 171 - no. 98 -
and called Qianlong period, 18th century.
A similar example of this very unusual and eccentric
decoration is found in 'The Copeland Collection'
pages 240 & 241, on a pair of elephants, dated late
18th/early 19th century.
